How much does a wedding cost in Europe?

Let's talk about one of the most asked questions to wedding planners everywhere: "How much does a wedding cost?" but with a twist. Since Dream Weddings Europe specializes in wedding planning in Europe, the question I hear most from couples is: "How much does a wedding cost in Europe?".

The breakdown of the cost of anything can be challenging to address without some additional information, and wedding services and products are not an exception. Like every other product or service, wedding-related costs depend on many variables, such as location, number of guests, style, etc. So a linear answer to the question is tough to give.

Nonetheless, I will share some insight from my experience and point of view that might be helpful. First, let's start by deconstructing one current myth about European weddings.

Nowadays, there's this idea that Wedding services in Europe are more expensive after the COVID pandemic, and it is only partially correct. Wedding services in Europe are not more costly after COVID.

HIGHER TRAVELLING COSTS

The overall cost of wedding services in Europe, in countries like Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Croatia or Greece, didn't get more expensive. The average wedding costs are more or less the same, but the travelling costs are much higher, around 20% more in 2022 than in 2020. The fact is that travelling takes on a big part of a Destination Wedding party budget giving the impression that it is more expensive now than it was before 2020.

BEST QUALITY WEDDING SERVICES IN SOUTHERN EUROPE

Wedding services in Europe did suffer an increase in prices between 2015 and 2020 due to high demand. Wedding professionals in southern Europe made investments to improve their quality and ability, and their prices started to reflect it. Couples can easily find world-class, high-end wedding vendors across southern Europe, from venues to floral designers, wedding planners, and hair and makeup stylists.

THE MOST EXPENSIVE PLACES TO GET MARRIED IN EUROPE

The most expensive places to get married in Europe are Paris, Rome, Tuscany, Lake Como, Côte d’Azur, Amalfi coast, and Santorini. In these locations, beyond the exceptional geographic beauty, weddings and luxurious services, couples must pay higher prices for fame and recognition. Since many wedding vendors operate boutique-like facilities and services, securing a date is also very difficult, increasing the exclusivity of any wedding celebrated

there. Wedding costs in these locations can be compared to the price of rare commodities.

THE BEST VALUE-FOR-MONEY LOCATION FOR LUXURY WEDDINGS IN EUROPE

In Portugal, Spain, or Continental Greece, couples can find excellent value-for-money luxury wedding vendors and venues offering the same level of care and refinement that, for instance, they'll find in Paris or London for half the price.

Like many of the most sought wedding vendors in Portugal, Dream Weddings Europe's market positioning is in the luxury wedding segment, meaning couples can expect very competitive but never low-cost prices. We work alongside breathtaking locations and venues in beautiful natural landscapes, historic venues, or modern and high-end ones, which can guarantee particularly unique celebrations as fabulous and memorable as any other in Europe's most coveted and most expensive locations.

REASONABLE AVERAGE COST PER GUEST FOR A WEDDING IN EUROPE

Even though costs may vary, there is a reasonable average cost per guest that couples should consider as a budget starting point for a European wedding.

For this estimate, the number of guests is key since not all wedding costs depend on the number of guests. For instance, catering, rentals, and flowers depend on the number of guests, but for other vendors, the number doesn't determine the cost and might even make the price per person higher, such as venues or photographers.

With this in mind, for a party of 90/110 guests, couples should consider a budget per guest between 500 to 1000 euros.
