Today we would like to tell you about Greece and our two favorites destination wedding locations : Athens & Santorini.
Greece is probably one of the most popular countries for weddings. Many venues offer wedding packages that are suitable for small & simple weddings with no planning & tailored services need. So what are the advantages, the must-see places?
Climate & best period to visit
Generally speaking, Greece enjoys a typical Mediterranean climate which depends on the altitude, with mild & rainy winters and hot & dry summers. Spring is unfortunately quite short.. Of course, Greece being a very popular destination, we recommend to visit the country in April - May - June - September - October, especially for the ancient Greece lovers, as summer is peak tourist season.
The budget
Greece being part of the EU, the currency is the Euro. We can say that Greece is relatively affordable, but that also depends on you :) Regarding the duration & season of your trip, where and how you eat, if you rent a car or not... Popular restaurants are quite affordable, but food price varies quite much. But if you decide to have a road trip across Greece, you'll see that fuel price is quite high (one of the expensive in Europe). And of course, fuel price affect public transportation prices. The accommodation budget is interesting, by planning in advance you benefit of best rates - but we recommend to avoid Greek's Easter period!
Greece is very a interesting wedding destination because of its interesting rates. Some wedding venues offer very low rental fee : a terrace renting for the ceremony starts at 500 €, some offer very interesting wedding packages like for 1000 € you can get the ceremony place renting, with floral arrangements, champaign & wedding cake, ceremony set up & a one night stay for the Bride & Groom.
The must-see places
The advantage of Greece is that you can easily take a flight to visit the Greek Islands, which is not very expensive if you plan it in advance... We'll talk about our "Coup de Coeur" Islands :
- CORFU : Mountainous Island with lush vegetation, a mix of Greece and Italy where you can get lost is small alleys full of History..
- MYKONOS : where the jet-set meet during the summer season, small houses with white-washed walls and blue windows and gorgeous mills...
- SANTORINI : One of the most fascinating Islands of Mediterranean region, this volcanic island is one of the most important Caldeira in the world...
In Athens you have to visit the Acropolis, the ancient Agora, the Erechtheion, the National Gardens, the Lycabettus hill, the National archeological museum, the Syndagma (Parliament), the Parthenon & the Plaka quarter - which is very typical with a warm ambience. So wether you go in Greece to relax and drink cocktails on a deckchair by watching the sunset, or visit with an active program and taste each Greek culinary speciality, there will always be something for you !

Wedding in Athens :
Now we would like to introduce our two favorite wedding venues in Athens Region. Plan your wedding in Athens is an interesting compromise if you want to spend your holidays in a beach front resort and visit a capital.
Our first wedding venue is a luxury sea front resort located only 25 km from Athens Airport. Perfect venue for those who want to visit the capital and it surroundings. The resort offers interesting rates for those who plan their wedding & stay there, but also wedding packages. Say "I Do" in a dream atmosphere...
Our second wedding venue is located in the South of Athens, a little further than the first one : 50 km from Athens airport, on Attica Riviera. This resort offers a direct view on the Temple of Poseidon and over the sea... This resort also offers many activities for adults and kids. As many wedding venues in Greece, you can ask for wedding packages too. A great venue to celebrate and a great resort for your holidays !
Wedding in Santorini :
Santorini... magical Island ! Santorini is considered as one of the best wedding destinations. As you've probably remarked, Santorini has a special architecture, which is very Greek : white walls & blue details. We recommend this Island - in particular for a wedding - for those who are looking for an enchanting and peaceful atmosphere. What better than a stunning view on Aegean and the Caldera with a warm sunset for a wedding ceremony or reception ?
Our first favorite wedding venue in Santorini is a very modern Restaurant. This wedding venue located on the top level of the Caldera offers a magnificent view on the volcano and city. You can enjoy of the huge terrace and interior modern room.
Our second preferred wedding venue in Santorini is a small luxury hotel, perched 250 above waters, where you can enjoy the serenity and calm... For the wedding ceremony we love the terrace with its panoramic view, where you can set up an elegant and romantic event. This wedding venue offers two possibilities of exclusivity for weddings.
Of course we have many other venues that we love, like beach wedding venues, villas, other hotels with gardens or terraces, but we'll present them in another post :)
Greece is full of magical wedding venues, and many wedding styles can be imagined. But sincerely, if you want a Rustic venue / Vintage venue, Greece will not be the right destination. You can find some, but rarely with sea view.
